Ford Explorer is an all-wheel drive seven-seater crossover. The fifth generation of the model lost its frame body structure, from which only the characteristic slope of the rear side pillar remained. The car's arsenal includes a new Terrain Management plug-in all-wheel drive system, as well as MyFord Touch color multimedia developed by Windows.
The Terrain Management system controller is located under the driver's right hand near the automatic transmission selector.
The system has four modes: Normal (in it the rear axle is connected if necessary), Mud / Rut (it allows slight slippage, and the machine is in no hurry to shift to higher gear), Sand (in it the box honestly keeps a lower gear, and the accelerator becomes more sensitive to pressing) and Snow (in it, in order to avoid wheel slip and the creation of a crust of ice under them, the traction supply is reduced, while the electronics actively imitate the blocking of interwheel differentials). In addition, there is an additional assistance mode for driving on steep descents.
The chips of the new Ford Explorer are electronic tidy, on which you can display an image showing the distribution of traction by the all-wheel drive system, as well as an almost completely touch-sensitive center console on top of which there is a multimedia display. The entertainment system understands voice commands and can synchronize with smartphones. The top trim levels are equipped with a Sony audio system.
From now on, instead of heavy eight-cylinder engines, V6 engines with a volume of 3.5 liters are installed under the hood of the Ford Explorer: a 294-horsepower aspirated engine (346 Nm) in conventional versions and a 360-horsepower unit (475 Nm) equipped with a turbocharger in Sport versions. The gearbox is a six-speed automatic, armed with a manual mode.
Trunk volume even in the seven-seat configuration is 595 liters, in the five-seat version, the size of the “hold” increases to 1,240 liters. Passengers of the gallery are not deprived of a minimum set of amenities - two rear additional seats are equipped with cup holders and armrests.
