Ford Kuga - front- or all-wheel drive crossover. The third generation of Kugi was introduced in April 2019. In America, a similar car is sold under the name Ford Escape.
Compared to Kuga second generation the new crossover has received a more dynamic design and in profile resembles rather a tall hatchback. Which is quite natural, given that the Ford Kuga is built on the same platform - the Ford C2 - with Ford Focus. At the same time, the SUV became larger: the length increased by 89 mm (up to 4613 mm), the width - by 44 mm (up to 1882 mm), and the wheelbase - by 20 mm (up to 2710 mm). And only the height is reduced by 20 mm (1669 mm). Optimization of the design allowed to reduce the weight of the machine by 90 kg and at the same time make it 10% stiffer.
Inside, the Kuga visually repeats the Focus in almost everything, and the differences come down to the design of the door cards, seats and dashboard - the crossover has a virtual one, drawn on a 12.3-inch display. The car has become more spacious, and not only in length and width. Ford says headroom has increased by 13mm at the front and 35mm at the rear. The second row of seats is mounted on rails and moves back and forth, varying the amount of space for passengers and the capacity of the trunk (within 67 liters).
Options include an 8-inch Sync 3 multimedia system, 10-speaker B&O speakers, a projection display, active noise cancellation, and a 10-device Wi-Fi router. For the main European markets, the Co-Pilot360 complex has also been announced, which includes adaptive cruise control, automatic braking systems with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping and automatic high beam switching.
In addition to the "regular" configurations, there are versions of the ST-Line with sporty decor and Vignale with rich leather interior and 20-inch wheels, while the remaining versions have a maximum diameter from the factory that does not exceed 19 inches.
The third generation Kuga can have a three-cylinder 1.5 Ecoboost petrol turbo engine with combined injection (120 or 150 hp), as well as four-cylinder turbodiesels 1.5 EcoBlue (120 hp) and 2.0 EcoBlue (190 hp). The main gearbox is a six-speed "mechanics", and a new eight-speed "automatic" is offered to diesel versions. An all-wheel drive transmission is installed only in tandem with a 190-horsepower diesel or hybrid units, of which the crossover can have three types.
The Kuga EcoBlue Hybrid is a mild hybrid with a 48-volt starter-alternator and a small battery. The electric motor helps the main 2.0 EcoBlue turbodiesel (150 hp) in the first seconds of acceleration and starts it as part of the start-stop system. Average fuel consumption is 5.0 l/100 km.
Kuga Hybrid and Kuga Plug-in Hybrid are full-fledged hybrids with a 2.5 petrol aspirator that operates on the Atkinson economy cycle, an electric motor and an electromechanical variator. Peak system power - 225 hp The plug-in hybrid is equipped with a 14.4 kWh lithium-ion battery (installed in the underfloor of the passenger compartment), which can be charged from a wall outlet in four hours. Electric mileage reaches 50 km, and passport fuel consumption is only 1.2 l / 100 km. The regular Hybrid has a different battery and consumes 5.6 l/100 km.
The European Ford Kuga is produced at the Ford Motor plant in Valencia (Spain). An American Ford Escape rolls off the production line at a Louisville, Kentucky facility. In addition, there is a Chinese localization of the model, which is produced at the Changan Ford joint venture.
